Do you fear stepping foot in a dental office? Do you feel nervous leading up to or during dental treatments? To help patients with dental fears feel relaxed and at ease, Dr. Bethaney B. Brenner offers sedation dentistry in Burlington, Connecticut. Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help patients feel calm during dental procedures. The following are the different levels of sedation:
- Minimal sedation, in which you are awake and relaxed
- Moderate sedation, during which you may slur when speaking and may not remember much of the treatment
There are several types of sedation. Inhaled minimal sedation uses nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas. Our dentist will place a small mask over your nose, through which you will breathe nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen. With oral sedation, our dentist will give you a pill about an hour before your dental procedure. This type of sedation can be minimal to moderate, depending on the dosage taken. With IV sedation, you will receive sedation through a vein. Our dentist can adjust the level of sedation. If general anesthesia is used, the medications will make you unconscious during the procedure. You will awaken when the anesthesia wears off.
