A dental bridge is an appliance that closes the gap caused by missing teeth. If a patient is missing one or more permanent teeth, Dr. Bethaney B. Brenner may recommend a dental bridge. A dental bridge is made up of a dental crown for the tooth on either side of the gap with a replacement tooth in between. A dental bridge can:
- Restore the beauty and functionality of your smile
- Restore your ability to eat and speak properly
- Maintain your face shape
- Properly distribute your bite
- Keep your natural teeth from shifting out of place
To place a dental bridge, our dentist will first prepare the teeth on either side of the gap, which are called the abutment teeth. A small amount of enamel is removed to allow room for the dental bridge in your smile. Impressions of your teeth are made so that a dental bridge can be constructed. Our dentist will place a temporary bridge to protect your teeth until your permanent teeth are complete. When your dental bridge is ready, our dentist will remove the temporary bridge and check the fit of your permanent dental bridge. After any necessary adjustments are made, our dentist will permanently cement the dental bridge in place.
